Geography

Geography vision at St John’s including the EYFS curriculum

Our vision is for children to be curious and fascinated about the world and its people. We will equip students with the skills to observe, measure, analyse, and present geographical information. By taking into account our demographic, we ensure that children develop knowledge about a variety of environments. We teach children to communicate their geographical understanding by teaching them to use essential vocabulary. Finally our commitment to provide opportunities for our geography learning to be taken outside the classroom via fieldwork is key at St John’s.

At St John’s, we use Kapow Primary to support our Geography curriculum.  The Kapow Primary scheme of work encourages:

• A strong focus on developing both geographical skills and knowledge.

• Critical thinking, with the ability to ask perceptive questions and explain and analyse evidence.

• The development of fieldwork skills across each year group.

• A deep interest and knowledge of pupils’ locality and how it differs from other areas of the world.

  • A growing understanding of geographical concepts, terms and vocabulary.

Whilst we use the Kapow curriculum for Geography at St John’s, we also understand that each child is different therefore we adapt Geography teaching and learning to meet the needs of our children.
