PE

PE vision at St John’s including EYFS

Our vision at St John's C of E for physical education is to inspire every child to develop a lifelong love for movement, health, and physical activity.

Developing children physically is essential for them in order to lead an active, healthy life. A good quality PE curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness, respect and love.

We aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every child can experience the joy of participation, learn fundamental movement skills, and build confidence in their physical abilities.

Children build ability in regular and diverse physical activities. By engaging in competitive and cooperative activities through structured opportunities in competitive sports and collaborative games, children can develop lifelong healthy habits and last but not least - children enjoy fun, engaging experiences.

By embedding these principles in our physical education curriculum, we envision a generation of confident, active, and health-conscious individuals who value physical fitness as a vital part of their future success and well-being.

At St John’s, we use Get Set 4 PE to support our PE curriculum.  The Get Set 4 PE scheme of work:

  • provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sports activities including; net and wall games, strike and field games, invasion games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor adventures, where children will acquire the fundamental skills to excel across a broad spectrum of physical activities, fostering their ability to adapt and enjoy a wide range of sports, exercises, and movement practices.
  • enables children to embrace regular physical activities where we will cultivate an understanding of the value of being active, encouraging children to incorporate physical movement into their daily routines both at school and at home.

  • Through engagement in competitive and cooperative activities through structured opportunities in competitive sports and collaborative games, children will learn teamwork, resilience, and fair play. Children will learn to win and lose with kindness and respect while celebrating both individual and group achievements.

  • Children will develop lifelong healthy habits where physical education will be a foundation for promoting lifelong wellness, teaching children the importance of exercise, balanced nutrition, mental well-being, and rest as integral components of a healthy lifestyle.

  • Enjoys fun, engaging experiences through activities that are tailored to be enjoyable and rewarding, creating positive associations with movement and fostering a sense of accomplishment and joy in physical activity.
