Music

Music vision at St John’s including the EYFS curriculum
Our vision is for children to have embodied the creativity of music as a universal language by creating opportunities to explore different styles of music in a creative environment. We want to inspire a love of music to children through their musical journey to develop self confidence and creativity.
We aim for children to be confident, creative and descriptive; to know how to describe the music they hear and the emotional connection they have to it. Children will be encouraged to use musical vocabulary to review and evaluate pieces of music. Children will be taught how to use their voices to sing to compose solo and group pieces. Children will also be given opportunities to learn a musical instrument and the skills required to perform and play confidently. We want children to confidently explore and discuss confidently how music is created, produced and communicated.
At St John’s, we use SingUp to support our Music curriculum. The SingUp scheme of work encourages:

• Learn to sing well and enjoy singing.
• Develop musical skills and understanding.
• Experience the wider learning and developmental benefits that singing and music making provides.
• Experience long-term benefits to their health and well-being
Whilst we use the SingUp curriculum for Music at St John’s, we also understand that each child is different. Therefore, we adapt music teaching and learning to meet the needs of our children.
